  • Powerful Antioxidant
  • Helps improve circulation
  • Natural Mood Booster
  • Help Improve Stress Levels
  • Improve Focus and Mental Clarity

Can the benefits of Ginko Biloba and Ginseng improve cognitive function in dementia and Alziheomer’s? According to the Alzheimer’s Association, there are more than 6 million people living with Alzheimer’s. By 2050 it will grow to over 15 million. You may know someone suffering from dementia and are looking for natural ways to help with its symptoms. Ginkgo and Ginseng are known to have some benefits that can help ease some of the symptons.

Red Panax Ginseng Extra

Ginseng is a traditional medicinal herb popular in China and other Asian countries including Korea and Siberia. Ginseng has been mentioned in Chinese manuscripts for thousands of years for its beneficial uses. What makes ginseng desirable is the active ingredients of Ginsenosides and Gintonin. These active ingredients are found in the root of the plant.

What are the benefits of Ginsenosides and Gintonin? (F3 Brain Booster Formula)

According to the published article in PubMed. These active ingredients found in ginseng may help in the management neurodegenerative conditions found in Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. More research is needed to understand the cause and effect of these active ingredients. With additonal research it may lead into the creation of new treatments for this debilitating disease.

Another open lab study found in PubMed did a 12-week randomized study with 61 patients subsequently 24 males and 37 females with Alzheimer’s. They were all randomly assigned different dosages of Korean red ginseng. Dosages ranged from low to high and with a control group of no dosage. To track any change in cognitive and performance function at the end of the 12 week study several known science based scales were used. At the end of the study patients who were in the high dosage range scored better than the low dosage and the placebo group. But hold on even this study says further study is needed to CONFIRM what they have experienced.

Ginseng and Anti-Inflammatory Properties (F3 Brain Booster Formula)

Another benefit of Ginseng is its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory properties. A abstract in PubMED mentions enzymes found in the ginsenosides related to anti-inflammatory mechanism. These enzymes as a result can contribute to the suppression of inflammation.

Ginseng and Effects on the Brain

A study found in PubMed compare the electrical brain activity in 17 different regions of the brain in 30 elderly subject during different stress levels from resting to mental challenges. This test was also comparing hydroponically grown to wild cultivated ginseng. The subjects were split into 3 groups of 10 evenly (Hydro, Wild, Placebo) and reallocated every two weeks to another group before testing.

Improve Your Mood

The results showed strong impact on brain activity in different regions on the brain under different mental strain. Both types of ginsengs showed significant positive effects on the brain compared to the placebo group. The electrical frequencies testing in the ginseng subject also showed improvement in mood, calming effects as well as cognitive function in elderly subjects

Ginkgo Biloba

Ginkgo Biloba is known as a living fossil since it’s trees can be dated as far back as 250 million years ago. The benefits of the ginkgo biloba leaf can also be traced thousands of years in Chinese ancient medicine. Ginkgo biloba leaves has antioxidant properties and contains 24% flavone glycosidesas a free radical scavenger.

What are the health benefits flavone glycosides?

The most vital phytochemical found in Ginkgo Biloba are flavonoids glycosides which provide a great source of antioxidants as well as anticancer and antitumor activity. There is still a lot to learn on the effects of the flavone glycosides and more research is needed to understand how these glycosides may help prevent these types of chronic diseases

Can Ginkgo Biloba help with cognitive functions?

A controversially research study done in March 2014, found in the PubMed discusses evidence of adverse effects of Ginkgo Biloba extract EGb 761. The research team search in several medical database including Medline, Embase and Cochrane for randomized controlled trials of Ginkgo Biloba EGb 761 therapies in patients with cognitive impairment and dementia.

They found 9 trials that were 22–26-week durations and included 2,561 patients in total. During the trails they tested in several areas including Cognition, activities in daily living and a subgroup of patients with neuropsychiatric symptoms and dementia. They were given 240 mg of Ginkgo Biloba EGb 761 in the trails and as a result found improvements in patients who were given the Extract versus the placebo.

So what’s the controversy?

It seems this study used the Peto OR system to measure out the results which can be biased in unbalanced sample size.

the Peto odds ratio estimator can be severely biased in the situation of unbalanced sample sizes in the two treatment groups or large treatment effects GUIDO SCHWARZER,ORESTIS EFTHIMIOU,GERTA RÜCKER

What is very clear is that inconsistent data can be found around the cognitive improvements in patients with dementia as we can see by another study found in Cambridge University Press which shows a positive results..

Improvements of dementia:

In an article published on September 21, 2017 found Ginkgo Biloba extract to be effective in treating behavioral (depression, irritability, agitation and anxiety) as well as psychological symptoms of dementia. A team of researchers analyzed randomized data that were 22-24 weeks long.  In addition, four trials of two groups split 1628 patients. One group of 814 were given Ginkgo Biloba extract (240 mg) and the other 814 were given a placebo. Mean while at the end of the trails patients who were given Ginkgo Biloba showed improvements from symptoms from those who were given a placebo.

Interaction

Most importantly, even though Gingko and Ginseng have other postive benefits they can both interact with different types of medication.

  • Antidepressants
  • Blood thinners
  • and NSAIDS (Ibuprofen)

Risk of bleeding is a concern since most elderly paitients are on other medication that can increase side effects.

Always talk to your doctor when starting new supplements to be sure you are aware of any adverse reaction with the medication you are taking and be sure to stop its use upon any bad side effects
