The Iceman Cometh: Otzi’s Carnivore Diet consisted of cereals

Do we have a time machine to look back on what our ancestors ate before modern man regurgitated bad carbs and ultra processed foods? No, but we do have documented evidence of what a 5,300 year old Ice mummy named Otizi ‘s ate a few hours before his death. A published report in Current Biology reviews the Iceman’s last meal. This European copper-age mummy last meal consisted of high-fat, wild game meat and cereals. The same type of diet is similar to the carnivore, low-carb diet, which has become popular in recent years. This meal was likely beneficial for The Iceman and may have been part of his routine for optimal health.

Yes! The meat only diet, high protein, organ meat lovers, and low carbohydrate diet has been gaining popularity as a weight loss tool. Studies have shown that increasing protein intake can lead to weight loss and help reduce the amount of weight regained over time. Protein contributes to satiety and can accelerate metabolism, leading to reduced calorie intake and possible weight loss. A 3-month non plant food study in the National Library of Medicine found that those who ate high-protein diets with 0.4–0.6 grams of protein per pound (0.9–1.3 grams per kilogram) of body weight per day lost significantly more weight and fat mass than those who ate 0.2–0.4 grams of protein per pound (0.5–0.9 grams per kilogram) of body weight per day.

Heart Health:Carnivore Diet Health Benefits

Eating a healthy diet is essential for maintaining good heart health. Vitamin K2, found in meat, can help reduce the calcification of arteries, which is a major factor in heart disease. A high-protein diet can also help lower LDL cholesterol levels.

Eating animal meat and fat may increase cholesterol levels, but the overall effect benefits heart health due to decreased inflammation and glucose/insulin spikes.

Brain Health:Carnivore Diet Health Benefits

The carnivore diet may also benefit brain health. Eating animal-based foods provides essential fatty acids, such as omega-3s, which are important for brain development and function. Animal proteins are also a great source of B vitamins, which play an important role in cognitive functioning. Additionally, the high-fat content of the carnivore diet can help improve mental clarity and focus.

Clearer Mind-Mental Health

How exercise improves your mental health
Clear Your Mind

For many people, the carnivore diet has been gaining popularity as a way to improve your brain functions by increasing mental clarity and focus. Meat is an important part of the carnivore diet, as it contains nutrients known to help brain function, such as B12, Zinc, and iron which are known to improve brain functions and mental health.

Going into ketosis is a by-product of the all meat diet which can also lead to improved energy, mental stamina, and better brain function.

However, there may be a break-in period where the body has to adjust to the lack of carbs, leading to lethargy and moodiness. After a few days or a week, mental clarity could be sharper than ever before – even better than with a standard ketogenic diet. The carnivore diet may be worth considering if you’re looking for ways to clear your mind and improve your focus. With its high-fat content and lack of carbs, it could help you achieve greater mental clarity in no time.

Decreasing Inflammation

Decreasing inflammation is an important part of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Inflammation can be caused by many factors, including diet and lifestyle choices. Fortunately, there are several steps that can be taken to reduce inflammation in the body.

Eliminating sugar and inflammatory vegetables from the diet is one way to reduce inflammation.

A low-carb diet can help reduce the buildup of fatty acids that cause inflammation.

Avoiding processed foods like deli meats and non-organic red meats can maximize the benefits of lower inflammation. Several studies have shown that a low-carb, high-fat diet can lead to reductions in inflammation, with a 2013 study finding that those on such a diet had lower markers of systemic inflammation than those on a low-fat, high-carb diet. Additionally, removing certain plants from the diet could reduce low-grade inflammation caused by food sensitivities.

Gut Health

When it comes to gastrointestinal issues eating a balanced diet is important for overall health, but it can be difficult to find the right balance. Many plant-based foods contain fiber and phytochemicals that can cause gas, bloating, and stomach upset in some people.

Fiber which is present in fruits, vegetables, and grains cannot be broken down during the digestion process,

Eating too much fiber can cause digestive symptoms such as bloating, gas, and constipation. Additionally, lectins found in nightshades like tomatoes and peppers can also irritate the stomach. Reducing or cutting out fiber may help to resolve constipation and other digestive symptoms in certain people.

Lower Blood Sugar Levels: Carnivore Diet Health Benefits

The average American diet is high in carbohydrates, leading to blood sugar spikes and energy crashes. This can have a negative impact on overall health and well-being, especially for those with diabetes. To help stabilize blood sugar levels, reducing carbohydrate intake is key. The carnivore diet eliminates sugar intake altogether, which has been linked to improved or resolved diabetes symptoms in many people who have followed it for at least 6 months.

Eating foods high in fiber can also slow down the digestion of carbohydrates and lead to a steady rise in blood sugar. However, it’s important to note that surveys that rely on self-reporting are not considered the gold standard for scientific studies. Additionally, this diet demonizes plant-based foods and promotes claims of improving fatigue, digestion and autoimmune diseases without sound science. Ultimately, decisions about health should always be based on evidence-based information backed by science.

Do you need vitamin and supplements on a carnivore diet?

benefits of taking supplements
Variety of dietary supplements, including capsules of Garlic, Evening Primrose Oil; Artichoke Leaf; Olive Leaf; Magnesium and Omega 3 Fish Oil.

The carnivore diet is a restrictive eating plan that consists of only meat and other animal products, such as poultry, eggs, organs meats, bone marrow, fish, lard and tallow, butter, and bone broth. Dairy products like yogurt and cheese may be acceptable in moderation. All plant-based foods are off-limits on the carnivore diet, with the exception of coffee and tea. Proponents of the carnivore diet argue that supplements are not necessary as meat is nutrient-rich. However, it is recommended to supplement Vitamin D3 and Omega-3 fatty acids for optimal health while on the carnivore diet. Additionally, although it’s unlikely to develop a vitamin C deficiency on the carnivore diet due to its high protein content, it’s best to monitor levels just in case. Ultimately, whether or not you need supplements on a carnivore diet depends on your individual needs and goals.

What food to Eat : Carnivore Diet Health Benefits

Carnivore Diet is a way of eating that focuses solely on animal products and your favorite cuts of meat. This means that all plant-based foods are off-limits, with the exception of coffee and tea. The diet consists mainly of red meat, such as beef, pork, and lamb, with an emphasis on fattier cuts. Other animal products allowed include organ meats, poultry, fish, eggs, lard, bone marrow, butter and processed meats. Dairy products like yogurt and cheese may be acceptable in moderation. To add flavor to meals on the Carnivore Diet, salt and pepper can be used along with sauces or gravies made from meat drippings mixed with butter or ghee. Additionally, water and bone broth can be consumed for hydration purposes.

Overall, the Carnivore Diet is a very restrictive way of eating that eliminates most plant-based foods from one’s diet.

The Carnivore Diet is a restrictive diet that only allows for animal products. All fruits, vegetables, grains, nuts and seeds, dairy, legumes, alcohol, sugars, plant-based oils and beverages other than water are excluded from the diet. Fruits such as bananas, berries, citrus fruits, apples and avocado are not allowed on the Carnivore Diet. Vegetables like potatoes, carrots, broccoli spinach and peppers are also off limits. Additionally, whole or refined grains as well as soft dairy products should be avoided while following this diet.

The purpose of the Carnivore Diet is to reduce inflammation in the body by eliminating all potential allergens from the diet. By avoiding all plant-based foods and focusing solely on animal products like meat and fish it can help to reduce inflammation in the body which can lead to improved health outcomes.

*UPDATE*: What I found looking deeper into this topic of how restrictive the diet is it seems some carnivore dieters do add some GREENS or Fruit to help aid in digestion. However, You can not call it a Carnivore diet if you are adding anything more than meat. Ultimately do what is right for your body. I myself when deciding to dedicate myself to a month of meats will incorporate some greens but no carbs and will not call it a Carnivore diet.
